Well, the fine summer weather has arrived and we have now decided to leave soon for the Yukon, Alaska, and Northern BC. This will mean postponing our trip to Regina until probably September.
This will really be the first open-ended voyage in the Van. We have made trips to Idaho and the Kootenay (2010), and northern Vancouver Island (2011), and Regina (2010 + 2011), but those were all limited by time and planned accordingly. This trip, we hope to spend time in Whitehorse, Haines/Skagway, Atlin, the routes to and from, but where else will be at our whim and prompted by local suggestions, weather, activities, and serendipity.
The plan is to camp most self-sufficiently in the Van making full use of the fridge, furnace (won't be needed ; ) ), water, Porta-potty, and the installed solar and electrical systems. Apparently there are many fine campsites to provide showers and auxiliary power and water when and if we need it. I hope to do some day trips on my road bike supported by Shealagh and the Van, and several side trips on my mountain bike. We will both use our bikes for side trips once we are camped.
